Grappling Hook
![]() The grappling hook was one of the most essential pieces of equipment that was utilized by the Ninja. The grappling hook was made out of three or four hooks that were all welded together, and then attached to a piece of chain or rope. This chain was usually around thirty to forty feet long. They used it to scale walls, climb past difficult obstacles, and sometimes it was even used as a weapon. Many times the Ninja were paid to assassinate rulers or important people that were living in fortresses or castles. In order to enter without being seen, they would have to find other means of getting inside without using main entrances. Since most of these buildings did not come with many handholds, and their walls were extremely tall, the grappling hook was used to make these ascents. Once inside the building, if they were spotted by a guard, they might need to finish him off in less time than it would take to reach him and draw a weapon. In this case, they could use the grappling hook as a throwing and/or choking weapon.
