Water-Crossing Equipment

Sometimes, a ninja would have to cross water to reach his/her destination. This could be done a number of ways. Most of the time, the ninja would be able to simply swim across, and he could use a blowgun as a snorkel. There were occasions, though, when the ninja was carrying equipment that couldn't be gotten wet, such as powders, poisoned weapons, etc. If this was the case, than he could either put his equipment into a floating basket, and swim beside it, or he could use an ingenious device called water shoes. These were large, wooden shoes that were big enough and displaced enough water to keep the ninja afloat. Once he was standing, he could use a paddle to propel himself across the lake. The water would have to be calm, however, if he wished to do this. If he was upset when he was out on the water, than it was important that he released himself from the shoes for fear of drowning. There were also collapsable boats, which were made up of a few different pieces, that could be used. These would normally be brought when there was more than one ninja, because the pieces would be difficult to carry by just one person.
