Fukiya
![]() One of the most essential weapons for the ninja is the fukiya, or blowgun. This weapon has several different uses which enable the ninja to perform his duties perfectly. The blowgun could shoot darts, which were sometimes poisoned, at enemies from a rather remarkable distance. The blowgun was almost completely silent, and this allowed the ninja to remain undiscovered. The blowgun was also able to shoot certain projectiles called metsubishi into someone's face. All of this helped him to get an assignment done quickly, efficiently, and without being noticed; this was what the ninja were primarily trained for. Blowguns were usually made out of metal or bamboo. In times when a real blowgun was unavailable, though, even a rolled up piece of paper could be used as a makeshift one. They ranged in size from one to six feet.
