Almost as often as a ninja will use darts with a blowgun, he will also shoot powders, poisons, shredded bits of metal, or other substances with it.  Many times, these are contained in a small paper bag, which explodes upon impact, sending painful clouds that can blind, paralyze, kill, or cause extreme pain to the targeted person.  Also, sometimes a mix of metal shards and pepper is shot, which can severely damage the face and cause intense pain.  This allows the ninja to either kill the person easily, get past them without being attacked, or a number of other things.  Metsubishi is also carried in egg shells or small section of bamboo.  These can be thrown at someone, again causing great pain and confusion with the victim(s).  This would allow a ninja to sneak past people without them noticing him/her.  Some powders were not painful, and they would cause a painless blinding, paralysis, or even death.
