Throwing knives were a frequently used weapon, and the ninja became experts with them.  There were many different sizes of knives, ranging from about 4-10 inches.  The throwing knives that the ninja used were generally rather skinny and light, so he was able to carry many of them when he was on any mission or errand.  The knives could be slid into the extra room in the end pf his sword scabbard, placed into a hollow bo or walking stick, or concealed under clothing.  One who became very good with them would be devastating when fighting, for he would be able to precisely release several throwing knives in the space of a few seconds.
